Kim Bong Wood Carving Village :
The carpentry of this village is believed to originate from North Vietnam, and has long been famous with its arts of wood carving and sculpture. Through contact and exchange with artisans of the same trade from Chiem Thanh, China, Japan and so on, combined with their own skills, these Kim Bong carpenters have created pieces of work which have normally great meaning in philosophy and fine arts. Products made here have been marketed in domestic as well as oversea markets.

Tradition has it that Kim Bong was first settled in the 15th century by four soldiers of King Le Loi’s army returning from the North. They saw its potential and fell in love with the area, bringing their wood working skills and founding Kim Bong’s four most notable craft families, Huynh, Nguyen,  Phan and Truong, whose descendants are still working in the village workshops today.
The village Craft Centre and workshops showcases craft items and the painstaking process by which they are produced, using specialist tools and techniques passed down since the 15th century when Hoi An flourished as a major sea port. The workshops today make hand crafted furniture and sculptures as well as a range of tempting souvenirs, some of which are exported a field as Europe and North America . Kim Bong craftsmen made a vital contribution to the recent restoration of historic buildings after Hoi An was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999. Moreover, they have been encouraged and rewarded by UNESCO for their preservation efforts.

Thanh Ha villagers who made the bricks, tiles and floor slabs for the old buildings in Hoi An and the surrounding areas. The Thanh Ha potters are still working in the same way as their forefathers. With their clever and skillful ha nds, they turn clay into pretty flower vases, tea pots, piggy bank, wine  bottles, water jars, kettles, cooking pots, or lovely ornaments of birds, turtles, buffaloes, cats and ducks. Nowadays many old buildings in Hoi An need restoring and the Thanh Ha villagers are the only contractors that can provide standardized bricks, tiles and floor slabs exactly like the ones when the old port town prospered.

Learn about the daily lives of the villagers. Here you will view the various stages of producing the many kinds of the pottery products such as jar vase, earthen pot, decorative lamps.
The Thanh Ha Pottery Village in Hoi An used clay mixing techniques, burning and baking time and heat modulations to bring out different colors like pink, pinkish-yellow, red, light brown and ink-black in the wares. The craftsmen also modulate all these aspects to achieve immense durability in their products
